Ron A. Kort

Attorney

ADA Specialist/Partner

Ron Kort is a New York attorney whose practice is devoted to disability civil rights, including disability discrimination litigation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and local anti-discrimination statutes. He represents disabled individuals and their families in matters involving access to public accommodations, discriminatory policies and barriers, special education, Medicaid and New York public benefits, accessible housing, and long-term planning through special needs trusts. As an attorney with a physical disability, Ron approaches every case with a deep understanding of how legal decisions affect a client’s daily life, autonomy, and dignity.

Ron earned his Juris Doctor from New York Law School. While there, he attended on a full Trustee Tuition Academic Scholarship, served on the New York Law School Law Review, and was recognized on the Dean’s List. He was also selected for the Dean’s Leadership Council and received the Joseph Solomon Award for Excellent Character and Fitness as well as the Dean’s Award for Student Leadership, honors that reflect both his academic strength and his reputation for integrity and service.

Ron’s training is rooted in hands on advocacy. He has worked in special education and civil rights law, spearheading litigation on tuition reimbursement and discrimination matters, and representing parents during due process hearings on accommodations for students with disabilities. During law school, he gained additional experience at the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA), where he managed a pro bono caseload, helped clients with criminal convictions pursue reentry benefits, and assisted general counsel in representing the interests of the association itself. Earlier, as a judicial intern in the New York Supreme Court’s Commercial Division, Ron drafted bench memoranda on complex commercial disputes, sharpening his research, writing, and analysis skills across issues such as fiduciary duties, fraudulent conveyances, and shareholder rights.

Ron’s legal work is informed by a strong background in business and finance. Before law school, he earned a BBA in Marketing from Hofstra University’s Honors College and later completed an MS in Finance from Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business, where he developed skills in data analytics, corporate finance, and investment analysis. This training allows him to navigate cases that involve financial structures, housing markets, and complex, long-term estate planning with confidence and clarity. Ron has also founded and operated several entrepreneurial ventures, gaining experience that he now brings to his clients’ cases.

Across all of his work, Ron’s goal is simple: to make systems more accessible and to give disabled individuals and their families clear, practical pathways to protect their rights, their essential services, and their futures. Outside of his work at Ron A. Kort PLLC, Ron has several professional endeavors, including consulting on compliance with the ADA and related civil rights laws, performing accessibility reviews for websites and small businesses, and speaking publicly on disability, inclusion, and leadership including delivering the 2025 middle school commencement address at a school serving students with special needs. When he is not practicing law, he manages a real estate brokerage focused on accessible housing, advises companies creating assistive technology and software, and enjoys traveling, exploring new AI tools, speaking to audiences about disability and inclusion, and cheering on the New York Knicks.
